NAME: Amaterasu
AGE: Not explicitly stated, but likely thousands of years old.
CANON: Ookami
CANON HISTORY: [X]
CANON PERSONALITY: Upon first meeting, it's very easy to fool yourself into thinking that Amaterasu is just a very big white wolf (or, for the very delusional, a very big white dog). But the fact of the matter is, even then there is no denying that she's not an ordinary big white wolf. She's too intelligent, too aware of her surroundings. People often comment about how their pets have personalities, but there is something about "Ammy" that is too human to be simply all animal.
That kind of thinking is only half right, because Amaterasu is, in reality, a goddess in wolf form, not human.
And not just a goddess, but the goddess, the Sun and Mother of All that is Good, which means she has a lot of good to start with. Amaterasu is everything a good god should be: protective of her people, and powerful enough to destroy any evil that threatens them. No example of this is as important or telling as her personal mission to eradicate the many agents of darkness poisoning her country. When the people of Nippon were in danger, she deemed it her duty to protect them, despite harsh condemnation from many humans who believed that she was an agent of of the dreaded beast Orochi. Even after death and subsequent resurrection, she didn't hesitate to continue her work, nearly single-handedly restoring Nippon back to before Yami's darkness had fallen over it. A wolf is a symbol of fierceness and dogged determination, and both of these she has in spades. She never yields, fighting tooth and nail for what she believes to be true and good because she is the personification of such, and her people need the reminder that truth and good still exist in the world. Woe to anyone who may be so foolhardy as to get in her way.
But a good god is also benevolent and kind, and this too she has so much of. Amaterasu is a mother, after all, and like any loving mother, she is concerned with her people's troubles, capable of understanding and easing their pain. Despite how busy she was during her travels, she always kept an open ear up for people in distress and need, and did her best to help in whatever way she could, whether it was finding or retrieving someone or something, purifying a cursed area, providing manual labor, feeding the wild animals, even solving mysteries! Simply put, she was willing to listen, and willing to take the time to fix whatever was bothering those who turned to her for comfort. Amaterasu has an incredibly accepting and forgiving personality that makes this possible, and a heart as expansive as the heavens that is dedicated to fixing problems both big and small.
Sometimes "willing to listen" meant "eavesdropping", though. Amaterasu is a good god, but she is also an incredibly curious, extremely nosy one. It might have something to do with her chosen form, yes-- a dog's tendency to get into where it's not meant to go, and the somewhat simple-minded optimism that says she's absolutely fine after stumbling down some stairs or falling off the side of a mountain. But it's also because, with the other gods gone forever, the humans are her main source of companionship, to say nothing of how they are also her main source of power through their prayers. She likes getting to know them, seeing their moods and figuring out their quirks, likes meddling in their affairs to involve herself in their lives. When she is with them, she doesn't have to be a goddess. She can be a friend. She can be, at different turns, naive and happy-go-lucky, lazy and easily-distracted, mischievous and playful, even air-headed and sometimes plain dumb. Post resurrection, this can be explained by a loss of memories and powers, making her not entirely the same as the goddess she used to be...but it's also that she is enjoying more of her time on Nippon, and is able to see more of it through the eyes of her chatty and ever present traveling companion Issun, who interprets the world for her, guides her when she is confused, and sometimes puts words in her mouth, too. With him, she learns how to enjoy the world she is saving as much as she relearns how to save it.
Because there are many things she has to relearn, after her resurrection. Even goddesses have flaws, and Amaterasu has many of them-- many of which have already been mentioned, but another that stems from being a goddess in the first place, which is that she can be too trusting and kind. As the Origin of all that is Good, she tends to assume everyone is good if they don't immediately give her reason to believe otherwise, which can be dangerous on a mission as holy and urgent as hers, making her vulnerable to traps and deceptions. So too does she have a bit of an attitude on her. She won't hesitate to snub someone if they've annoyed or wronged her in some mild way, and she can be petty, pretending to not understand a conversation even though she heard someone very loud and clear or outright sleeping through it.
For all that she is a goddess, it seems she might not be so different from the humans of this world.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Fighting/Physical: Compared to an average wolf, she has super speed, stamina, and strength, as well as enhanced senses; she is capable of running long distances without tiring, and has the strength to defeat various mythological and even god-level monsters and enemies. Amaterasu is also not just a dumb dog with a weapon! She can be tactical and cunning, and isn't afraid to fight dirty in both a literal and figurative sense.
Magic: At the height of her power, Amaterasu is capable of using all 13 of the Celestial Brush Techniques that she can reobtain from her children, the Celestial Brush Gods. She utilizes the techniques by the magic in her tail, which acts as a calligraphy brush that channels her mgaic in the heat of battle. The 13 Celestial Brush Techniques are as follows:
Sunrise: A circle drawn in the sky allows her to create or prolong the day.
Rejuvenation: Filling in the negative space of something damaged or broken allows it to be restored to its original condition.
Power Slash: A straight line through an object or enemy allows her to cut through it like an actual sword would.
Greensprout: Actually three techniques in one. A circle over plant life activates Bloom, which heals cursed plants and causes lush plant life to sprout immediately. When used on humans, it induces a surge of affection for Amaterasu that encourages them to pet her...and when used on members of the Oina tribe, it changes them between their wolf and human form. A circle over water activates Water Lily, which creates a giant lily pad that supports Amataerasu's weight. A line to or from a Konohana Blossom activates Vine, which creates a strong vine that can be used for various purposes.
Cherry Bomb: A circle with a short line drawn from within to outside the circle creates a bomb.
Waterspout: A line drawn from a body of water to something else will allow her to redirect it where she wants it to go. A line drawn straight up produces a geyser.
Cresent: A curved arc in the sky allows her to create or prolong the night.
Galestorm: A swirl or spiral in the air creates a windstorm that blows in the direction that Amaterasu drew it in.
Inferno: A line drawn from a source of fire will allow her to redirect it where she wants it to go.
Veil of Mist: Two horizontal lines in the air will slow down time to a crawl for four seconds.
Catwalk: A line drawn from a Kabegami statue up a wall will create a golden surface that Amaterasu can climb, defying the laws of gravity until the surface fades away.
Thunderstorm: A line drawn from a source of lightning will allow her to redirect it where she wants it to go.
Blizzard: A line drawn from a source of ice will allow her to redirect it where she wants it to go.
One last 'power' she has is being able to hide her divinity-- that is, the red marks on her body, and her Divine Instrument. Only pious people, those who believe in the gods, or those who are pure of heart will be able to see her markings. Otherwise, she will appear as a white wolf to them.
Weapons: Amaterasu uses weapons called Divine Instruments. There are many of them, but they can be broken up into three classes: reflectors, rosaries, and glaives. She is able to carry two on her at all times, and switch between the two mid-battle for various combos and attack styles.

CHARACTER: AU SECTION
AU NAME: Hikari Kamiki
AU AGE: 35
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: In the AU, Hikari is a Japanese woman instead of a wolf! She has ash blonde hair (dyed) and dark brown eyes.
AU NAME: Hikari Kamiki
AU AGE: 35
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: In the AU, Hikari is a Japanese woman instead of a wolf! She has ash blonde hair (dyed) and dark brown eyes.
AU HISTORY: Shared AU history approved by Hannah (Tamamo;
castrationfist), Sam (Lucy;
long_live_the_queen), and Lycoris (Ragna;
rebellions).
• Hikari was born into a very old, traditional, rich, distinguished, influential, etc. family in Japan, and while she didn't grow up hating that life, she found out very quickly that it wasn't for her. As soon as she was seventeen, she left her family's estate to live on her own. Luckily she'd always been loved unconditionally because of her kind and sweet nature, so there were no dramatic separations or estrangements, especially when her grandfather and head of the clan Haru Kamiki adored her. Rather, her family sent her along her way by gifting her a lavish Tokyo apartment while she started her university classes and her career as a teacher.
• During her studies, her two married friends passed away in a car accident, leaving their young son alone. Hikari took it upon herself to take care of him while his relatives made arrangements to fly into Tokyo. Somehow she was entrusted with the baby through the rest of the discussions and funeral arrangements, and in that time, she researched and discovered just how difficult the adoption process can be on the children in the system. This inspires her to work towards being recognized by the government as an official foster parent, so that she can help children like her friends' son go through the adoption process with a positive influence in their lives.
• While this was happening, she had a whirlwind romance with a classmate from school. She married him and together they had a daughter when Hikari was 18, who they called Tamamo. They all lived happily for several years. Sometime during Tamamo's childhood, Hikari and her husband ended the marriage on friendly terms, having grown apart. By then, Hikari was starting to take kids into her home as her foster children.
• Tamamo grew up to be the light of Hikari's life, and soon proved to be idol material. Hikari was a very supportive mother, but because she wanted to continue her education and get her Ph.D in Asian Art History (specific focus tbd), in the end it was decided that Hikari would go to America, where she would study for her Ph.D in California while a branch of the Kamiki estate would be built in Recollé for the family's use. The plan was for the estate to ultimately end up as Tamamo's home base during her idol career. In the meantime, Tamamo would stay in Japan with her father and continue working as an idol until her world debut. Still ever the mother, Hikari fosters several children while she's studying, including Lucy and Ragna.
• Tamamo has a couple of terrible boyfriends over the course of the time that Hikari is studying for her Ph.D-- boyfriends that almost ruin Tamamo's idol career. Luckily, by this time she's ready to go on her world tour, and the estate is finished as well, so Tamamo is set to leave for America and live with her mom again. As for Hikari, she's starting as a teacher at the Recollé University in the fall.
AU PERSONALITY: The biggest change in her AU (aside from the fact that she's now a woman instead of a wolf) is that Hikari, unlike Amaterasu, is not mute! Which means that she is very free to talk about anything under the sun. All of Amaterasu's doggy energy translates into a very cheerful, chatty, and affectionate Hikari who loves the world around her and discovering new things about it, as well as interacting with the people in it. Anything that interests her is worthy of her enthusiasm, and she has a tendency to go off on tangents, especially if nobody is going to stop her from doing so.
Aside from this, it's notable to mention that Hikari lacks the burdens of a goddess who needs to save all of Japan. She has certain stresses, like the issues her foster kids bring, and her worries about her daughter and work, but these are all normal human stresses. She hasn't known anything truly tragic or life-threatening, having been pampered by her family's clan for all her life, and while it hasn't made her arrogant, it has made her easy-going and carefree, allowing her to live very well off compared to others. She's very happy to use her money for charities, supporting her daughter and foster kids, and sponsoring local projects in the community, but she's also equally happy to spend it on a week out eating five star gourmet meals, new archery equipment, or fashion runway outfits. She's rather self-indulgent that way...
None of this changes how kind she is, though, or how devoted she is to her loved ones. Hikari may be a little bit of an air-head, but her heart is still the same as Amaterasu's: full of good and wanting to do good. Hikari just directs her energy in a different place than Amaterasu does.
